Resistance is Useless in the New AgeBusiness News, 14 June 2001 The shift from the corporate world based on the masculine view of everything, to the coming corporate world based on the feminine view of most things, is not an easy transition for m/any corporate heavies. The move toward a feminine paradigm in business is not an option in the 21st century. Whether talking bauxite or banking, Tambellup or the Terrace, the winners will be those who understand and practice cooperative, synergistic, and lateral processes, the win-win-win for people, business and the planet. The previous Big Picture column discussed the knowledge economy requiring the right brain feminine abilities in thinking and relationships. Reader response came thick and fast, mostly from Aussie males, mostly in total agreement that they are not skilled in any but the most masculine left-brain traits and that their jobs increasingly require the more feminine paradigm traits of negotiation, team play, laterality, no-ego leadership, and value rather than dollar driven. Some claim victim status and want the old ways to stay. Some want to change but cannot ideal with the existing macho anti-change culture. The majority, however, are actively pursuing ways to change. The following personal story from a respected finance executive represents the tone of many: "Our baby boomer generation of men have been caught in a wedge between the new thinking they want to be a part of, and the rigid conditioning from their immediate postwar infancy. It can't be fixed just with new information because every time a person is under real pressure the conditioning generally takes over. "I am 56 and began active co-counselling 10 years ago. It's a grass roots peer group thing and not commercial. I have been doing men's liberation work with a wonderful bunch of men for many years now. This weekend 6 of us are spending time away together. This small group includes an engineer, a financial adviser, a scientist, a senior computer manager, a worker, a union official and a social worker. All have done proper courses and years of work in this area. All are fathers and all are working their butts off. "We don't have a problem but we all find this process makes our lives richer and our thinking is getting better as we get older instead of seizing up. We become braver, more decisive, less easy to upset etc... all the things people find so difficult to change. Plus it is just terrific to be truly close and safe with other men. We find it easier to become better allies to boys and get involved in their lives etc. " Further info at www.re.org. A state-wide umbrella organisation for men's self-help activities is The Men's Health & Wellbeing Association 9225 4113, or online to their newsletter Editor at LifePathWA@hotmail.com. WA, this Way Ahead State, is highly creative, innovative, and way ahead because we are prepared to face the challenge of change. We have all sorts of men's groups developing more balanced males, men better equipped to excel in this Century of the Feminine. Go guys.
