CONSIDER the rate of change . . . .

Every 15 seconds a new web site is launched

Every 15 minutes a new technology breakthrough occurs

Every 15 days a totally new product or service is born.

We choose from 127 kinds of bread.

We choose from 4 buttons on the toilet cistern.

We have a least 3 phone numbers. Plus fax.

We are 3 seconds from anywhere with a phone line.

21st Century : THREE LABELS :

  1. CENTURY of the PACIFIC
  2. CENTURY of HEALING
  3. CENTURY of the FEMININE (RIGHT BRAIN)

THREE KEY WORDS :

1. Passion

2. Responsibility

3. Dignity

THREE KEY DRIVERS OF CHANGE :

1. CONSUMER Driven Economy

2. KNOWLEDGE Driven Value Shift

3. GLOBAL TRADE Power Shift

and DRIVING ALL DRIVERS OF CHANGE :

1. Technology

2. Technology

3. Technology !

We are in the 3rd Great Economic Revolution :

1. Agrarian

2. Industrial

3. Technological

All political economic social & cultural life is changed by technology.

70 % of jobs in 2020 do not exist now

because

80 % of technology of 2020 is not invented yet.

Technology & Education :

  • Whose world are we educating for ?
  • Young raised with technology do not defer to traditional authority : Death of Deference
  • Respect must be earned by honesty, passion, consistency, integrity.
  • Children now know more about the delivery system of education than most teachers.
  • As a 5 yr old said, after her first day of school : I am only going to school until it's on CD-ROM.
  • IT & knowledge accelerating : 95% of knowledge of our brain discovered in past 10 yrs.

IN OUR INFORMATION / TECHNOLOGY SATURATED ENVIRONMENT

REQUIREMENTS for TEACHING

from Net discussion with Michael Gurstein, Canada

Not to replace our basic set of skills ( 3R's)

but to

add a set of complex / conceptual skills

We must also know how to

  • manage
  • construct
  • deconstruct

information and knowledge at a CONCEPTUAL level

So we can

make sense

of what we are doing

with ITs

So we can control ITs

and how they

structure our relationship

with others and with the

physical world.

Young are developing such skills

spontaneously and

intuitively.

We need to catch up

or get out of their way

or help them systematize

what they sense.

Wed 8 May 2003 12:12 What should our schools be doing?

NATALIE SAID . . .

Teach children HOW to learn, not what to learn! Teach them how to ask questions and make informative decisions. Teach them to trust their intuition. Teach them magic!

Bring back writing lines. Not as a punishment, but as reinforcement of their being. Have them write positive things about themselves. "I am beautiful, I am worthy of love, My future is positive and bright!!!" - over and over and over.

Teach them about the big picture. That they are all part of each other. That we are all part of the earth and it is also part of us. What we do to others, we do to ourselves.

And finally, the three R's :

Respect for yourself, Respect for others, and Responsibility for your actions.

Cheers, Natalie

( Natalie became a quadriplegic at age 8 when she fell off her bicycle and broke her neck. She is a Can Do person working for a better world. )

INTRODUCING : ANNI MACBETH

FUTURIST & PRINCIPAL of ANNIMAC CONSULTANTS

Describing the changing face of our world up to 30 years from now is the speciality of trend forecaster and futurist Anni Macbeth, also known as Annimac.

With a foot firmly set in the future, Annimac - who heads Annimac Consultants - is currently commanding immense corporate, government, and community attention for her strong clear views on the political, economic, social, and cultural changes impacting us now and how we must operate for a healthy sustainable future.

Business, government, education, the professions - the Establishment in general - come in for fiery criticism for being Jurassic, not moving with the times into this 21st century, and not paying attention to the immense changes, particularly in values and attitudes, already occurring around us.

Annimac works with business, government, and community groups to shift their thinking, to understand what the future may bring, and to gain new knowledge on how to successfully thrive in these challenging times.

She has spent more than 37 years in six countries building up a highly respected background in new venture creation, psychology, education, hi-tech innovation, media, arts management, executive management and now future trends.

In Australia since 1970, Annimac has been recognised for her achievements by Who's Who in Australia and overseas since 1983. Having for years had her own column in the Perth's weekly newspaper Business News and appearing regularly on ABC radio, Annimac now communicates to the world with her online newsletter, The Trendsletter, through her website www.annimac.com.au. The website also provides Annimac's seminar and presentation notes for your use.

Annimac's lively workshops, seminars, presentations and consultancies, plus her Executive Coaching, show top management and the rest of us how to turn corporate and personal anarchy into healthy chaos. How to manage change, to gear up for the future and become the organisations and people we want to be, while always finding the win-win-win outcome with passion, responsibility and dignity.

As Annimac says: Resisting change is like holding your breath - if you succeed, you die.
